Britain's leading consumer technology show selected the Hampshire Flag Company to supply a range of international flags. The Gadget Show, which returns to Five for its fifth series, chose the Havant manufacturing firm to provide the South Korean, Danish and Union table flags for use on set and within the offices. The popular show checks out all the latest gadgets, delivers the latest techy news and reviews relevant websites.

Awards hat-trick for Hampshire Flag

It was glamour, glitz and glory for HFC once again when managing director Graham Wilkinson was presented with Entrepreneur of the Year award at the Hampshire Life & Wave 105 Business Awards. It was the company's third prestigious award this year after it stole the show at The News Business Excellence Awards in January by winning two categories. This latest accolade, which was presented in at the ceremony in Winchester on 22 September, recognises Graham's success in turning Hampshire Flag from a sole-trading local firm into a successful, thriving and internationally recognised company.

K2 adventurer flies high with flag firm's support

Hampshire Flag has backed a former Hampshire councilor's challenging expedition to climb one of the world's most difficult mountains by producing an exceptionally lightweight flag. Brain Yates, 62, a former County Council representative, scaled the summit of the Karakoram mountains in Pakistan. On reaching the summit, Brian proudly display the flag which weighed only 100 grams a square metre, approximately the same weight as paper. This outward bound adventure follows on from the flag firm's support of a record-breaking five ocean swimmer, a mission to the North Pole on skis by an adventure seeking couple and Ellen McArthur's round-the-world boat challenge.

AUGUST

Firm flies the flag for famous Jersey festival One of Jersey's most famous parades

The Battle of the Flowers, featured more than 160 flags and banners produced especially for the colourful event by Hampshire Flag. The island's annual festival saw National flags, individual Channel Island flags as well as specific event flags being flown along Victoria Avenue in St Helier. The festival attracts visitors from all over Europe and this year had a crowd of over 16,000.

JUNE

New fabric finishing machine cleans out competition

Hampshire Flag is taking textile printing and flag production to another level after purchasing a state-of-the-art Rimslow finishing machine and is the only UK firm to own this version of the Rimslow Wash-X – an automatic in-line washer and drier.
The multi-functional machine worth around £70k, removes fabric coatings, washes away dye residues, and dries and rolls the textile, making it ready for delivery or further processing. The Rimslow can do in one hour what used to take a whole day and can process up to 100 linear metres an hour and provides continuous washing for all types of inks.

Flag firm kick starts recycling initiative for Rainbow Centre

A local educational charity for children with Cerebral Palsy will be getting a boost thanks to a paper recycling project spearheaded by HFC. The aim of the recycling station located outside the flag firm’s unit is for HFC and other businesses on the surrounding industrial estate to get involved – transforming waste into much-needed cash.

New flagpole takes Oxford College to higher heights

HFC has been selected by one of the country’s most established and well-respected universities to supply a new flagpole for one of its colleges. The fibreglass flagpole was installed at Mansfield College in Oxford this month when the original wooden pole on the college’s tower rotted and broke away beyond repair. The 1886 building now features a six-metre fibreglass flagpole, supported by a white powder-coated steel bracket, which flies the Mansfield College red and yellow flag and the Union on state events.

Flag maker backs swimming sensation’s five oceans success

Hampshire Flag’s lucky streak looks set to continue well into 2006 after designing and producing a 6ft by 3ft polyester flag for a swimmer who has just become the first person to complete a long-distance swim in all five oceans. Lewis Pugh’s achievement was finalised with a swim in the Pacific Ocean at the end of January.

The team at Hampshire Flag was again in the spotlight this month when they were interviewed by Meridian TV. Carole Ellis, HFC's Account & HR manager, was spokesperson for the firm who were asked to provide comments on the Red Ensign flag, currently in the middle of a heated political debate in the Kent region.
